It was amazing~I learned I am not a quitter ~I am a Finisher.....30,000 of us lined up at the start but only 22,444 crossed the finish line.

more than high school graduation, more than my RN degree
this was harder to accomplish than almost anything I have ever done
so it means a TON to me

the only things that are remotely close are my marriage certificate (been married since 1987 it is hard work to stay married!)
My 3 children are hard work and I am proud of the job I do as mother!

but decided to run a full marathon and then actually following through with the training (no matter what came along.....and stuff came along) and running for 6 hours even though it would have been easy to stop about 1,000,000 times

I am very proud of my self. I learned that it is hard but guess what I can do hard stuff~kind of cool!

power of the group

Me, Tonia, BJ and Val

I usually run alone. But you can gain benefit from training with others!

Today was a meet and run plan 0830 Dockweiler State Beach and run 10 miles towards Manhattan Beach and back to cars
the pace was faster than my usual long run pace of 13-14. Val and Tonia are training for Palos Verdes Half Marathon next month and want to come in under 2 hours. They want me to train with them, they figure if they can do a Half at under 2 hours then and only then they will run a full 26.2. The goal is the Denver Marathon in October.
today's details for me (I turned back before them they ran 10 I got tired with that pace and turned back before they did)
BJ ran 8 miles with her husband's encouragement (she was only planning to run 6 miles) she says she needs to loose weight before she runs too much so she doesn't hurt herself!

But the power of the group to make you workout harder or run faster is amazing~so I may do these 10 miles runs with them and maybe even run Palos Verdes next month.

8.84 miles in 1:40:30 pace 11:22/mile average speed 5.3 mph max speed 7.9 mph average HR 165/min max HR 192/min

inspiring child!

This 10 year old child completed the L A Marathon in 3:03 his name is Constantine Yap. WOW!

just ran and I feel amazingly energized!

my new goal is a short term goal to improve my 5K pace (next planned 5K is 5/8/10)

after building slow long runs to allow myself to run 26.2 I find it very challenging but fun to now try to improve my speed at a short distance. When I was training for 26.2 it was SLOW 13-14 minutes/mile.

today I wanted to knock out 3 consecutive miles at 10:00 pace for each mile

my results are 3.75 miles average pace 10.01 time spent running 37.36 minutes then a slow recovery walk home.

so much fun training for new goals!! I hope you have given yourself some fun challenging goals!

running is medicine

I run for many reasons. The most important reason though is I run to reset my mood. I am a nurse and back in nursing school while on my psych rotation I witnessed electric shock therapy(ECT). This seemed bizarre to me. Depressed people gave consent to be sedated and have electric current zapped through their brain with enough force to cause a seizure and then a they would wake up with amnesia and feel better and have a brighter mood almost instantly and go home happy the next day. weird right?

well I run and stress my body with enough exertion to produce a similar response, I believe. The marathon training and now my attempts to improve my speed~jolt my brain and make me feel better~without all the drama of ECT or any of the side effects of mood altering medications.

I run for my health and because I can run I am happy. running is good medicine!

and I feel happy when I run down by the ocean, I draw energy from the flowing waves and wind.

I am learning

Monday blues and lower self wanted to crawl back under warm covers in dark of early morning.
grey sky hanging with threats of rain.

my higher self reminded my weak self to stir up the brain chemistry with a 4 mile run...you know you will be happy you do it right?

so today I listened to my higher self...because her voice is getting louder and the stuff she says rings true.

so I avoided the chocolate chip cookies and mounds of candy and got my running clothes on.

I started out the door it was windy, grey and mid 50's. started jogging and the strong tail wind was pushing me along it was fun...."see I told you it would be fun" my higher self whispered

Then is started to drizzle the cool drops of water hit my face not bad it was fun a new dimension.
Then I turned back to home and a strong head wind...OK the cool resistance training section of my run!
Then just for fun it really poured hard for about 5 minutes...still fun I was thinking at least this is California it is mid 50's I had a flash back to cross country days in high school running in Cleveland and the stinging wind and icy blasts that the weather there dumps on runners and I smiled.

I am so grateful for my life, my family and friends and see a run is mood changing. :)

out of frying pan into the fire

transplanted girl here but today I am Angeleno
could it be my obsession with running and the fact that I finished my first ever marathon recently? The beautiful 25th anniversary edition of Los Angeles Marathon was life changing for sure and maybe part of it. Could it be my new found curiosity with all things ~awareness~questioning all doctrines and figuring out what is true for me? Well OK maybe that is also a part of this change. Drinking protein shakes with kale and parsley OK weird probably not something I would be doing if I still lived in the midwest, but hey who knows?
No it is more than that not one thing instead a big shift in everything

I got tired of chewing my "green shakes" made in a blender and today I bought a juicer for $100 at Target. My teen aged girls recently started buying naked juice and while I am OK with that they could make juice from fruits and vegetables! The girls are both vegetarians the little one just recently got freaked out by meat and no longer likes it.

And now the weird part my husband is coming on board??? not sure really but he has the urge to own a business and while he played around with restaurants and bars~both of those felt low energy to me and I do not want a franchise~a flower store seemed bright and lovely but boring snooze fest!

so he was rattling off a list of area businesses for sale I jumped at one that sounded right up my alley. A little beach-style Budha shop selling all things spiritual from Budha to Christianity. Soaps, candles, beads, shells aromatherapy books of all kinds and it is not a franchise sounds fun and I am curious! so I guess living in flip flops all year long, drinking only bottled water, long daily mediations while running or walking at the beach and now juicing eating mostly vegetarian to potentially owning this adorable little spiritual type shop~it is official I am a Californian

I need to learn Yoga and become a Reiki healer~ coming soon!
