reset button found

I have fallen prey to worry. What a complete waste of time. It accomplishes nothing. I was worrying about my parents. My Dad fell and fractured his jaw and hip and at 82 years old that can be a game changer. They live far away in Ohio since I am not close but feel conflicted between my family obligations with my own children VS when I need to hop a plan and help out.
Worry worry interrupted sleep. What did I accomplish? Squat.

I feel off my plan completely. I have been mindlessly munching, not running (I know what an idiot why would my not running produce anything positive?) The funny thing tonight at dinner my girls 13,17 said Mom what is wrong with you where is Buddha? we like you when you are Buddha. No shock here when I fail to plan my eating, exercise and meditation my life gets screwed up fast.

so regrouping here.

tomorrow will be better. starting with a nice run!! aaahh I can imagine my post run brain all calm and happy!

Boston on my mind

just reminding myself what I can earn!!

today I will run fast so I can run faster I have to do things differently or I will keep getting the same results.
5 miles/hour won't cut it need to push but not to the point of injury.

food choices need to be better clean simple fresh often watch the portion sizes!

prayers for my sweet father today. he fell and broke his hip yesterday and is in a great deal of pain. Thank God for surgeon's hospitals and nurses today but he has a long road back to a new normal life.

Los Angeles Marathon 3/20/11

Whatever you focus on expands. I know when I was pregnant it seemed like everyone I was pregnant. When my kids were small I saw small kids everywhere and so on.

These days I am more focused on running and to be more specific a faster runner. You guessed it I keep meeting fast runners.
The other night I was at a crazy house party with about 300 17-18 year olds celebrating graduation from high school. A few of the parents stayed to help the party not get too wild and we were having a blast as well.

I met a guy and we started talking and a mutual friend said "oh you know she just ran the Los Angeles Marathon" I did not even bring it up someone else did. This other guy said wow really what was your time (a dead give away this guy is experienced) so I laughed and said "I finished, that was my goal to finish smiling; and I had a blast for 6 solid hours.... best day of my life!!!"

So he was trying to congratulate me and change the subject but I knew this guy was holding back so i marched head on. "so are you a runner?" I asked. The flood gates opened and for the next 2 hours the running stories were shared mostly of me bowing to his greatness!!! He ran Boston in 2:50 many years ago but could still give me a blow by blow (like no one but a kindred spirit, fellow Marathoner would appreciate) Mind numbing time 2:50 in Boston WOW!! I have to invite this couple over soon for wine and cheese (so I can continue to pick his brain)!!

He stopped running but my prodding seems to have rekindled a desire to lace up and hit the ground~he said he rides his bike now~wonder if he got injured???

Anyway exciting news.......LOS ANGELES MARATHON

ultra will never describe this runner!

“If you get lost we’ll bury you where we find you.” With that, the horn sounds and we’re off. The race goes straight uphill for the first 6 miles. In deep sand. At altitude....... was reading this from a blog of an ultra marathoner and laughed out loud. I am so not an ultra marathoner!!!

Today as I work towards my goal of 2:30 Half pace I am actually keeping track of my time and I wear my Garmin 305. It takes discipline to actually improve. So with that in mind I am going to train to improve instead of magical thinking.

sunset walk

after a day of screaming insanity of drug affected ruined lives in the ICU I find my center and feel grounded in the breezy sunset in Redondo Beach.

Still looking for my next big thing to keep me moving forward and it will undoubtedly be a run since I find endless pleasure running.

I will have a decision made by 6/21/10 my next start day for me next big thing............I refuse to drift along on the current of life so much rather plan and reach for goals. I refuse to knit on some rocking chair, although I would love a garden swing!

Saturday will be a nice 6 mile run Sunday I get to work with a good friend I can't wait to catch up with her!

need a new challenging goal

I feel great after a 5 mile run with a tough hill which I did not walk up!! I am improving on hills. Thankful for the June gloom because it is hard to run in hot sun.

My son just finished his first year at UCLA and is home for the summer. He was afraid he would not be able to handle the coursework at UCLA but then he adjusted and is did excellent! He is a Chemistry major, sounds tough to me but he loves it~minus the linear algebra! Last night he said a sad farewell to Saxon Suites and today he will probably sleep all day!

Summer is almost here and my 17 and 13 year olds are both graduating. It will be a fun summer with all the kids around. I love being a mom!

Today my husband said we are going to go ahead with redoing the front/back yards~huge amount of money but it all looks like hell so I am very happy about this! And once again we are looking at local businesses with serious thoughts of buying one. A lot of change going on here.

So what keeps me centered? Well I need a new challenging goal. Something big. So the process of choosing the next big thing begins. I need something that was as fun as Los Angeles Marathon. So any suggestions? I was considering swimming but have not yet gotten in a pool, not sure why, just don't want to I guess. I certainly do enjoy the post run high. my brain gets all lit up that is addicting. I am a junkie I guess.

Food chooses have been sloppy for awhile so I need to get back to fresh, real food~light simple small portions often all day to keep my metabolism burning red hot!

I was spoiled by Los Angeles Marathon

San Diego Rock and Roll Half Marathon report

The drive to San Diego was 20- 40 mph the whole way: was all of Los Angeles heading to San Diego?
Camped at KOA in Chula Vista because most hotels were sold out downtown by the time I decided to book a room and a friend was staying there. It could have been OK except the cabins surrounding my cabin was a loud drinking all night party. live and learn.

My daughter's went with me and my 13 and 17 year old drove me to the start then for the entire morning they were parked somewhere along the route snapping photo's blasting music and encouraging runners~this was a first for them to see a marathon all the way from elite athletes to the last man crossing the finish line with cars nipping at his heals. They learned more about the human spirit than I could ever tell them. I am happy they experienced that!

The pre race I planned poorly no food or coffee prior to the run~what was I thinking? I forgot to apply sunscreen and got frizzle by the sun, I forgot chapstick and wish I didn't. I forgot gum but bummed some off of a nice lady in corral #26 standing next to me. I met up at the event with a few on-line friends but did not run with them I never saw them but they finished 1 minute behind me, makes me wonder if I was pacing them or if they even saw me right ahead of them...weird.

The run was hillier than I expected. The start was scenic past beautiful museums~that was it all down hill from there.
I was spoiled by Los Angeles Marathon. San Diego pales by comparison. Much of the race was on the freeway? eeewww yuck and tilted so my left hip started to hurt. really who wants to run on a freeway?

The race course was uninspired and kind of how I felt as well. And this was a "Rock and Roll" event?????? where was the music? I saw 3 or 4 bands the entire race at Los Angeles the music, crowds and route helped me float along all 26.2 miles I am officially spoiled. No event will ever compare to my first Marathon, kind of like your first true love, sigh.

The end of the race was into the parking lot by Sea World and this caused a huge problem~getting all those people back to downtown.......FAIL! the line for the bus was about 2 hours long in blazing sun.

OK end of whining.

I ran 2:47:53 knocking 5 minutes off my Half PR. I am OK with this, but it is miles away from 2:30. I wanted 2:30 but did not really train to get there I was hoping for magic I guess. and having bathroom breaks 2 times each Half for me kills my time with the lines~ why do I need to go so much in 2 hours?

Now it is summer and I think an excellent time to switch cardio to swimming. I will let you know how it goes.
