WHY should I run marathon #2?

you will run your race the way you trained.

Your life is what you repeatedly think, do, say, eat. I am a runner but am I a marathoner?

it is very simple no magic appears on race day to change everything, the race is won in the preparation: the tweaking and fine tuning done as you learn about how your body handles the stress of those really long training runs.

simple truth and it applies to life.

you don't have to wait for ________ to be happy.

Live as if you are where you want to be and you will find happiness is enjoying the process the journey of life. The finish line is marked with a tombstone don't forget to enjoy the journey.

Stop waiting for ____________ just BE. Now is a great time to do this.

THOUGHTS
I am really giving thought to signing up for marathon #2. I need to think about which cause to run for, this creates a powerful answer to the question of WHY am I running. There are so many great charities but I could just donate to them right? Why run and raise money for them? I already ran a marathon so would #2 be as meaningful, memorable? I would be sad if I wait and it gets SOLD OUT ! 171 days until the Los Angeles Marathon will I be there? today is devoted to thinking this through.

trails are challenging

I ran a hilly trail in Palos Verdes this morning. The trail was deep with loose sand and dirt in sections other areas where spongy from freshly strewn wood chips. The air smelled fresh and the trees were nice relief from the Fall heat we are getting this year.
It has been along time since I ran up any hills or trails, my typical run is the bike path out to Redondo Pier and back home. I was inspired to run this morning after reading Dave's blog www.wonderfulworldofdave.com

The goal of my run today was NOT TO STOP. This is a lesson I learned training for Los Angeles Marathon last year. No matter what just keep moving in the direction of your goal, in this case a very steep hill, no matter how slow you go just keep pushing and you will get there. So with that in my mind I ran the entire way up that long steep trail and back home, about 4.5 miles. I feel great. I did what I set out to do. Another lesson I learned last year is to challenge yourself. throw out some challenging goals and go for them it keeps life interesting.

thoughts while I ran

trust faith it is a parachute when life gets hard to decipher trust that each challenge is there to teach you a lesson, make you stronger dig deeper find beauty.

smile you have the power to change someone's day. a smile is free it connects us it is a simple loving gesture. out on the trail runners smile to each other~ the simple stuff is what counts. smile.

and at the end of the trail run I realized my shoes were now officially trail shoes~note to self time to buy another pair of running shoes YEAH!!!

beautifully complex

life happens NOW. dont fear you are never alone... God is Real.
do not resist what is....it just is.... allow and be in the NOW.

listen and ask..... an answer comes...... you are guided in the flow of life....ask when you need.

Life is beautifully complex do not try to decipher it all.... just flow with it......... do not resist or try to comprehend all of its complexities.

make the best of where ever you are in life...no matter what you are where you are that is just a fact.

you can decide to fight it or find a thought that helps you enjoy the NOW

focus on allowing. Listen to your internal voice.

freedom only comes from the freedom from resisting what is..... Flow with life. find peace in what is....... because it just is. you choose your response to what is......it is your choice.

I never feel better than when I am outside in nature, on the wet sand watching the full moon setting over the Pacific this morning listening to the waves crash the gulls crying the smell of the salt air the others out jogging in the cool morning.

I always know the happiness I look for is always available to me in its many forms...outside in nature I am filled with joy.

Nature can be
a sparse barren desert hot and dry
a beautiful tree alive and changing throughout the seasons
a beach
a mountain lake
a meadow
clouds
wind
warm sun
damp fog
snow

I find joy outside in nature. I find joy allowing energy to flow through me as I run. I choose to my response to what is.

success is

Flaming enthusiasm, backed by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success.
Dale Carnegie

Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.
Sir Winston Churchill

I don't measure a man's success by how high he climbs but how high he bounces when he hits bottom.
General George S. Patton

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.
Bill Cosby

It is wise to keep in mind that neither success nor failure is ever final.

Peace

nervous energy pulses
change is in the air
chaos is the new normal
everything is in constant motion
nothing here is everlasting

wind tosses the flowers in the sunlight
leaves whisper an endless story to no one
everything is in flux
energy always shifting
what is real?
what is just a passing thought?
things are not as they once appeared

everything is in motion.
nothing is at rest
futile search for quiet
peace is no where today

feel the energy
let it roll over you like the surf
do not get pulled into its destructive path
feel the flow as it passes over

random energy is all around
do not let it swirl you into the vortex
find your center and let it pass
hold on to what you know
remind yourself what is real
love is real
nothing remains

change is a constant
breathe
observe the frantic pulse
love is the answer
it always will be
remember to just BE
Peace

long run taught me some valuable lessons

long run today as I prepare for 13.1 in Long Beach mid October
I ran 10 miles in 2 hours not too shabby but I really have not learned much from my last marathon training the question is WHY?

first half was 5.02 in 54.25 pace of 10:50/mile

then my ipod died.
I like my music especially on long runs my new ipod is glitchy randomly turns off. nothing I could do about that.

ran with no food/water so I ran out of steam
why would I dare to leave the house for a 10 mile run with no snacks or water what the HELL was I thinking Of course I would fizzle out on the return trip...and yeah I even forgot money so got to smell food cooking at various locations and just keep running as starving as I was.

and oops forgot bodyglide inner thighs are screaming~sweat + raw skin=ouch.
I need to go to Lucy in Manhattan today and get more skin protection This can not be my excuse in Long Beach

OK this is all a beautiful lesson to myself on what is a bad idea. If I learned from today all this crap I endured was so worth it!!

And running on 9/11 made me pause and be gratful for this beautiful place I live and the freedom to be who I am. I hold the intention of world peace in my heart today. wouldn't that be amazing if we could all live in peace? My middle child is at a peace rally in San Fran. today~ I will not allow terrorist to harden my heart or make me hateful Today I pray for Peace.

life is good.

this is a photo of us in 1987 on Catalina Island

This week was full of good things! I love my life. I turned 50 but feel better than when I was 30. And now I get 5 more minutes to qualify for Boston Marathon. (as if LOL!) I just entered a new age bracket that gives me 4:05 to qualify for Boston ~Hey that gives me a new reason to run Los Angeles Marathon for the second time this coming March.....Hmmmmm. this will need mediation.

My 23 rd anniversary is today I am so lucky to have someone to share my life with challenging but rewarding and almost no dull moments.

Yesterday we opened escrow on a new adventure a new business. A retail health and wellness shop. Life takes interesting twists and turns this is going to get interesting really fast! I have never worked retail and my other businesses were pizza stores before I had kids.

Today I ran 5 miles on a busy crowded beach because 13.1 miles is just 40 days away and I need to be ready!! I am running Long Beach Half Marathon in 40 days.

Life is good, I have much to be grateful for I never take one second of it for granted.

it is crowed and loud but that is the charm. I am the happiest I have been in about 30 years this decade is looking great!
now all fueled up I am planning my 9 mile run early in the morning (hopefully under cover of thick marine layer of fog)....Long Beach Half is fast approaching less than 50 days away.

~ ancient Sanskrit poem ~

Look to this day
for it is life
the very life of life.

In its brief course lie all
the realities and truths of existence
the joy of growth
the splendor of action
the glory of power.

For yesterday is but a memory
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today well lived
makes every yesterday a memory
of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day....
